Padstow sits on the western bank of the Camel Estuary, its harbour still a working one — fishing boats alongside the tourist boats that run trips out to the river mouth and beyond. The town’s narrow streets, Lanadwell Street and South Quay chief among them, are where all three of our pubs sit, each within a few minutes’ walk of the water.

The London Inn, on Lanadwell Street, is three fishermen’s cottages knocked into one — a proper local with real ales and five rooms above. The Golden Lion, a few doors along on the same street, is Padstow’s oldest pub at over 400 years old, and doubles as the stable for the town’s red ’oss during the May Day ’Obby ’Oss celebrations, one of the oldest surviving folk customs in England. The Old Custom House, right on South Quay looking out over the harbour, is the largest of the three with 23 en-suite rooms and a kitchen built around fresh local seafood.

There’s no railway station in Padstow — the branch line closed in 1967, and its old trackbed is now the Camel Trail, a genuinely popular cycle route into town from Wadebridge and beyond. The nearest working station is Bodmin Parkway, about 12 miles away.

Questions people ask about Padstow

Which Padstow pubs with rooms have parking?
We haven't confirmed on-site parking for any of our three — Padstow's harbour streets are narrow and mostly pedestrianised in season. The Old Custom House points guests to the pay-and-display car park directly opposite on the harbour; the London Inn and Golden Lion are both a short walk from the same car parks.
What counts as a "pub with rooms" in Padstow?
A bar you could walk into for a pint, with rooms attached — the London Inn and the Golden Lion are both genuine small Cornish pubs. The Old Custom House is larger, with 23 rooms, but it's still run as a working harbourfront pub rather than a hotel that happens to serve food.
Is Padstow the same place as Rock?
No — Rock is a separate village directly across the Camel Estuary, reachable by a passenger ferry from Padstow's harbour. All three pubs on this page are in Padstow itself.
