Staying above a pub in Dublin means a working bar downstairs, a building with a few generations behind it and a handful of bedrooms upstairs. The three we list are all in the centre: O’Donoghue’s on Merrion Row near St Stephen’s Green, and O’Neills Victorian Pub & Townhouse and the Lombard Townhouse on and beside Pearse Street, a few minutes from Trinity College.

It’s a short list. Dublin has many pubs and plenty of hotels, but we’ve found few that let rooms above a real bar, and we’ve left out hostels and any pub where we couldn’t confirm the rooms are bookable.

O’Neills says outright that no pets are allowed, and the other two don’t state a dog policy for their bedrooms, so we show it as unknown rather than guess. Ask before you travel with a dog. Rooms over busy bars can be noisy, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights, so ask for a room away from the bar.

The pubs price in euros, so check the rate on the booking page.
