Holmfirth is the Holme Valley’s main town, a small Pennine mill town of stone terraces on the River Holme, with moorland on the hills above it. It’s known across the country as the setting for Last of the Summer Wine, which was filmed here and in the surrounding area from 1973 to 2010, and the fans still come — Nora Batty’s Steps and the series’ cafe are both in the town.

Four pubs with rooms made our list. The Old Bridge Inn, the Nook and the Elephant & Castle are all in the town centre, within a few minutes’ walk of each other; the Huntsman Inn is a short drive up the hill, with views across the Pennines. They’re a mixed bag, and we’ve tried to be straight about it: the Old Bridge is a 21-room inn run by a hotel group, the Nook is a brewery tap with eight rooms, and the Elephant & Castle is a smaller pub with four.

There’s no station in Holmfirth, so most people arrive by car or bus. The dog details matter more here than most places, because policies differ sharply between the four — from small dogs only in selected rooms, to a flat per-stay fee, to no published policy at all — so check the individual pub pages before you book.

Questions people ask about Holmfirth

Which pubs with accommodation in Holmfirth have parking?
Three of the four have it, but it differs. The Old Bridge Inn has a car park at the front (postcode HD9 7DA). The Huntsman Inn, about two miles above town, lists free on-site parking, and the Elephant & Castle's owners describe allocated parking for each room. The Nook, in Victoria Square, has none of its own — its booking page lists off-site parking only.
What counts as a "pub with rooms" in Holmfirth?
A bar you could walk into for a pint, with rooms attached. Our list is the Old Bridge Inn, the Nook, the Elephant & Castle in the town centre and the Huntsman Inn just above it. The Old Bridge is run by a hotel group and has 24-hour reception, so it's the most hotel-like of the four, but it keeps a proper public bar. We haven't yet researched other Holme Valley village pubs with rooms, so they're not listed.
Are Holmfirth's pubs with accommodation dog-friendly at dinner, not just in the bar?
It varies, and for most we can't say. The Old Bridge Inn takes small dogs in some ground-floor rooms and says dogs aren't allowed in its Eatery, though dog-friendly tables can be requested. The Nook allows dogs in two room types for a £25 per-dog, per-stay fee, and CAMRA lists the bar as dog friendly. The Huntsman says it can accommodate dogs to stay, and the Elephant & Castle is listed as dog friendly in the bar. Beyond the Old Bridge's Eatery rule, none of the four publishes a clear policy on dogs at the table for dinner.
