Pubs with Rooms in Coniston

A small village under the Old Man of Coniston, on the shore of the lake that shares its name.

Coniston is a small village under the shadow of the Old Man of Coniston, on the shore of the lake Donald Campbell tried and died to break the water-speed record on. It’s smaller and quieter than Windermere or Keswick, and correspondingly less competitive — good walking country without the crowds.

All three pubs on this page sit within a few minutes’ walk of each other in the village centre: the Crown Inn, the Black Bull (which brews its own beer, Coniston Brewing Co, next door) and the Sun Inn, tucked up the hill above the village.

Coniston has no railway station — the nearest is Windermere, about 14 miles away, with a summer-only bus connection. In practice, almost everyone arrives by car.

Questions people ask about Coniston

Which pubs with rooms in Coniston have parking?
The Black Bull has free parking. We haven't confirmed parking for the Crown Inn or the Sun Inn yet.
What counts as a "pub with rooms" in Coniston?
We only list places that are genuinely pubs first — a bar you could walk into for a pint, not just a hotel that happens to serve food. Coniston is small enough that this is less of an issue than elsewhere — most of what's here is a proper village pub.
