Port Isaac is a genuine working fishing village first and a filming location second, even if most visitors now arrive because of the second — the harbour, the whitewashed cottages stacked up the hillside on Fore Street and Roscarrock Hill, and the narrow lanes have played Portwenn in Doc Martin since 2004 and appeared as themselves in the Fisherman’s Friends films.

The Golden Lion is the village’s own on-screen pub, an 18th-century Grade II listed building on Fore Street with rooms on the third floor and a small balcony looking straight over the harbour. The Slipway, on Middle Street, dates back further still — to 1527 — and runs as an adults-only B&B with seven rooms, four of them with sea views. Port Gaverne sits a five-minute walk along the coast in its own secluded cove, not technically in Port Isaac at all, but close enough and characterful enough — a 17th-century AA two-Rosette inn — to be worth including as the nearest pub with rooms to the village.

There’s no railway station in Port Isaac; the nearest is Bodmin Parkway, about 13 miles away, so this is very much a car-and-bus destination or a stop on the South West Coast Path.

Questions people ask about Port Isaac

Which Port Isaac pubs with rooms have parking?
We haven't confirmed on-site parking for the Golden Lion or the Slipway, both on the village's narrow central streets. Port Gaverne, just along the coast, has no on-site parking either, but points guests to Port Isaac's New Road long-stay car park, a short walk away.
What counts as a "pub with rooms" in Port Isaac?
A bar you could walk into for a pint, with rooms attached — the Golden Lion and the Slipway are both genuine village pubs on Fore Street and Middle Street. Port Gaverne is technically in the next cove along, not Port Isaac itself, but it's the nearest pub with rooms and a genuine 17th-century coaching inn rather than a standalone hotel.
Is Port Isaac really the village from Doc Martin?
Yes — Port Isaac has played the fictional Portwenn in Doc Martin since 2004, and the Golden Lion appears on screen as the village's pub. It also featured in the Fisherman's Friends films, playing itself rather than a fictional stand-in.
