Wells-next-the-Sea is a working harbour town with a quay and tidal creek running out to the marsh and the sea. A short walk uphill from the quay is the Buttlands, a long Georgian green lined with trees, and the two pubs with rooms in town face each other across it.

The Globe Inn and the Crown Hotel are both on the Buttlands. The Globe is a coastal pub with rooms in the pub itself and in nearby Arch House, dogs welcome in most bedrooms for £25, and food served all day. The Crown, a Georgian coaching inn, has 22 rooms, free parking, a weekly-changing menu and a “best price when booking direct” promise on its own site. Further along the coast road, the Victoria at Holkham sits at the gates of Holkham’s park and beach, with ten dog-friendly rooms in the main building and dogs welcome in its bar and restaurant, and the Stiffkey Red Lion, a Good Food Guide-listed village pub with twelve rooms, has a dog-friendly bar and rooms.

There’s no railway station in Wells; the nearest is Sheringham, about 20 miles away, so most visitors arrive by car or on the Coasthopper bus that runs along the coast road.

Questions people ask about Wells-next-the-Sea

Which pubs with rooms in Wells-next-the-Sea have parking?
Three of our four say something. The Crown Hotel offers free hotel parking, the Victoria at Holkham has a car park (and four EV chargers), and the Stiffkey Red Lion has a car park free for paying customers, with overnight parking for residents only. We haven't confirmed parking at the Globe Inn.
What counts as a "pub with rooms" in Wells-next-the-Sea?
A bar you could walk into for a pint, with rooms attached. The Globe and the Crown are both coaching-inn-style pubs on the Buttlands green; the Stiffkey Red Lion is a village pub with a separate accommodation block. The Victoria at Holkham sits at the hotel end of the scale — its own site calls it a four-star hotel — but it does have a bar and dogs are welcome in it, so we've included it, filed as a village pub three miles from town.
Which pubs with rooms near Wells welcome dogs in the bar?
The Victoria at Holkham (bar, lounge and restaurant, on a lead) and the Stiffkey Red Lion ("dog friendly bar") both say so on their own sites. The Globe says dogs are welcome in most areas and lets dogs stay in most rooms for £25; the Crown says some rooms take dogs but "not all areas of the hotel are dog friendly", so call first.
