Masham (pronounced “Mass-um”) is one of the most handsome market towns in North Yorkshire, built round one of the biggest squares in Yorkshire. It’s also an unusual beer town: Theakston’s brewery and Black Sheep sit within a short walk of each other, which is why a pint here comes with more local pride than most.

Three working pubs with rooms are within a few minutes of the square: the Kings Head, a Georgian inn on Market Place with 27 en-suite rooms; the White Bear, the Theakston brewery tap down at Wellgarth with 14; and the smaller Bay Horse on Silver Street with 4. All three welcome dogs in the bar, but they differ on overnight stays, and we’ve been careful to mark what’s confirmed and what isn’t.

Masham sits on the edge of the Dales rather than in them, so it works as a quieter alternative to the busier Wharfedale villages, with Ripon a short drive away. There’s no railway: most people arrive by car.

Questions people ask about Masham

Which pubs with rooms in Masham have parking?
Masham's Market Place is a big open square, and cars park on it. Beyond that it varies by pub. The Bay Horse's Booking.com listing shows free parking, and the Kings Head's listing mentions free public parking nearby; we haven't found parking confirmed on the Kings Head's own pages. The White Bear, on Wellgarth a few minutes' walk from the square, has its own car park — a local holiday-let listing refers to guests using it.
What counts as a "pub with rooms" in Masham?
A bar you could walk into for a pint, with rooms attached. That's why our list is the Kings Head, the White Bear and the Bay Horse. We've left out the Bruce Arms because its own website doesn't mention bedrooms and the listings we found disagree, the Black Sheep Bar and Kitchen because it has no rooms, and Swinton Park, which is a castle hotel rather than a pub.
Are Masham's pubs with rooms dog-friendly?
Yes in the bar at all three, but overnight is more limited. The Kings Head and the White Bear each take dogs in a limited number of rooms (book ahead and ask). The Bay Horse welcomes dogs in its tiled bar area, but we couldn't confirm whether dogs can stay in its bedrooms — its Booking.com listing says no pets. Dining policy is only partly confirmed: the Kings Head says dogs are welcome in "selected areas", and we haven't found the White Bear's or the Bay Horse's stated either way.
