Three Dublin pubs let rooms above the bar in the centre of the city. O’Donoghue’s, on Merrion Row, says it dates back to 1789 and was The Dubliners’ first venue, and its rooms are a short walk from St Stephen’s Green. A few minutes’ walk from Trinity College, O’Neills Victorian Pub & Townhouse, run by the same family for four generations, and the Lombard Townhouse, once a tea-room for Trinity’s academics, are both on or beside Pearse Street.

All three are in Dublin 2. The pubs price in euros, so check the rate on the booking page before you commit.

Questions people ask about Dublin

Are there pubs with rooms in Dublin city centre?
Yes, a few. O'Donoghue's on Merrion Row has double, triple and quad rooms, O'Neills Victorian Pub & Townhouse on Pearse Street has eight, and the Lombard Townhouse on the corner of Lombard Street East has eight. All sit above or beside a working bar.
Do any of these pubs allow dogs?
Not that we can confirm. O'Neills says 'No pets or service animals allowed' on its own site. The Lombard and O'Donoghue's don't state a dog policy, so we show it as unknown. Ask the pub before you book if you are travelling with a dog.
Will the rooms be noisy?
They can be. Reviewers of the Lombard Townhouse say lower-floor rooms can pick up noise from the pub, and O'Donoghue's has live traditional music in the bar. We haven't stayed at any of them, so ask for a room away from the bar and expect Friday and Saturday nights to be the liveliest.
Can I check in whenever I arrive?
Not at O'Neills. Its own site gives check-in from 2pm to 10pm Wednesday to Sunday, in the bar, and asks you to contact the pub for any other time, including Monday and Tuesday. The Lombard and O'Donoghue's don't publish check-in hours that we found.
