Norfolk’s pub-with-rooms scene is strongest on the north coast, so that’s where most of our eleven towns sit. From the west, Hunstanton, Burnham Market, Brancaster and Wells-next-the-Sea run along the flat, wide-skied coast road past Holkham and the salt marshes; Blakeney, Sheringham and Cromer carry on east through the shingle and cliffs; and Holt sits a few miles inland as a market-town base for all of it.

Further inland and east, Aylsham and Norwich are the places for country pubs and a city break, and Wroxham is the gateway to the Broads, where the pubs sit by the rivers rather than the sea. Many of the best rooms are in villages rather than towns — we say so plainly on each page, with the distance, rather than implying they’re on the doorstep.

Norfolk suits dogs: long beaches, coast-path walks and open marsh, and many of the pubs here welcome them, often for a small per-night charge. We’ve checked each one the same honest way as everywhere else on this site — where a pub hasn’t said whether dogs are allowed in the bedrooms, the bar or the restaurant, we show that as unknown rather than guess.
