Pubs with Rooms in Chagford

Chagford is one of Dartmoor’s old stannary towns — historically a tin-trading centre, and still built around a compact square with a church and a scatter of granite and thatch buildings running off it. Unlike the coastal towns on this site, the pull here isn’t the sea but the moor itself: open Dartmoor is a genuinely short walk from the square, not a drive away, and all three of our pubs sit within a few minutes of that boundary.

The Three Crowns is the oldest of the three, a 13th-century thatched inn on the High Street with rooms opening onto a private courtyard — several are set up specifically for guests travelling with dogs. The Globe Inn, a few doors along, is a more conventional coaching inn with seven rooms above the bar. The Chagford Inn, on Mill Street just off the square, has fewer rooms but carries an AA Rosette for its kitchen and was named among the Estrella Damm Top 100 Gastropubs for 2026 — worth knowing if food is the priority over room count.

There’s no railway station in Chagford; the nearest is Newton Abbot, about 10 miles away on the main Exeter–Plymouth line, so most visitors arrive by car or bus.
