Burnham Market is a village of Georgian and flint-fronted houses around a long, wide green, a few miles back from the north Norfolk coast. It’s the sort of place where the pubs and the green are the whole point of the visit, with the Norfolk Coast Path and the beaches at Brancaster and Holkham a short drive away rather than a walk from the door.

The Hoste Arms is the big name, a historic pub with rooms on The Green with 47 bedrooms between the inn and its annexe, a “best rate” promise on its own site, and dog-friendly bedrooms for a nightly charge. The Nelson, on Creake Road, is a smaller country pub with seven rooms — though its bar and kitchen are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which is worth knowing before you plan a midweek stay. A mile or two north, the Hero in Burnham Overy Staithe is the most dog-friendly of the three on paper: three rooms, every one of them dog friendly, and dogs welcome in the bar.

There’s no railway station in Burnham Market; the nearest is King’s Lynn, about 22 miles away, so most visitors arrive by car. The Coasthopper bus runs along the A149 coast road between Hunstanton and Sheringham.

Questions people ask about Burnham Market

Which pubs with rooms in Burnham Market have parking?
We haven't confirmed parking for any of our three yet — none of the pubs' own sites says. Worth asking when you book, especially at the Hoste, which has the most rooms of the three and sits right on The Green.
What counts as a "pub with rooms" in Burnham Market?
A bar you could walk into for a pint, with bedrooms attached — the Hoste Arms, the Nelson and the Hero all qualify. We've left out the village's room-only boutique hotel and its restaurants-with-rooms for the same reason we leave out other hotels: no proper bar to drop into.
Can I stay with my dog at the pubs in Burnham Market?
Yes at all three, with differences. The Hero says all three of its rooms are dog friendly and welcomes dogs in the bar; the Hoste has dog-friendly bedrooms at £25 per dog per night; the Nelson says selected rooms are dog friendly but doesn't give a charge or say where dogs can go downstairs.
