Castleton sits at the head of the Hope Valley, under the shadow of Mam Tor and the ruined keep of Peveril Castle, with Peakshole Water running straight through the middle of the village on its way to the show caves it’s named for. It’s one of the most-visited villages in the Peak District — good walking country, and a genuine draw in its own right for the caverns underneath it.
All three pubs on this page sit within a few minutes’ walk of each other in the village centre: Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn, Ye Olde Nags Head, and the Bull’s Head, all a short stroll from the village green.
Castleton has no railway station of its own — the nearest is Hope, about 2 miles away on the Hope Valley Line, a genuinely useful option if you’re arriving without a car.
