Pubs with Rooms in the Yorkshire Dales

The Yorkshire Dales are limestone valleys, drystone walls, and some of the best walking country in England — a landscape built on limestone in a way you can actually see, from the pavement above Malham Cove to the scars and gills cut into every dale side. Our four towns run from the park’s southern gateway to its northern reaches: Skipton at the edge, Grassington and Malham through the heart of it, and Hawes at the head of Wensleydale, the highest market town in the park.

Skipton’s own working Norman castle — genuinely lived in for 900 years, not a ruin — anchors the southern end, alongside the Leeds–Liverpool Canal. Malham is the walking-country extreme: Malham Cove’s limestone amphitheatre and Gordale Scar are both a short walk from the village, and it sits directly on the Pennine Way, the 268-mile path that begins properly a few miles further north. Hawes, at the other end of our coverage, is where Wensleydale cheese is actually made — the Wensleydale Creamery is in the town itself — and Aysgarth Falls are a few miles down the dale.
