Salcombe at a glance

We cover 3 pubs with rooms in Salcombe. 3 allow dogs in the bedrooms. 1 is a gastropub or serious dining pub.

Pub details last checked September 2026.

Salcombe sits at the mouth of the Kingsbridge Estuary rather than on open sea, which is what gives the town its sheltered, sailing-club character — Fore Street runs downhill to the water, lined with a mix of boutiques, ice-cream shops and the three pubs on this page, all a short walk from each other and from the estuary itself.

The Fortescue Inn is the most straightforwardly dog-friendly of the three, with dogs welcome throughout the pub and its beer garden and six rooms above. The Victoria Inn is smaller — two rooms, one specifically for guests with dogs, complete with its own “A La Bark” dog menu and a nightly charge. The Ferry Inn sits right on the water by the Jubilee pier, where the East Portlemouth and Kingsbridge ferries leave, with dog-friendly rooms upstairs from the bar.

There’s no railway station in Salcombe; the nearest is Totnes, about 15 miles away, so most visitors arrive by car, or by bus via Kingsbridge.

Questions people ask about Salcombe

Which pubs with rooms in Salcombe have parking?
We haven't confirmed dedicated parking for any of our three — Salcombe's Fore Street is narrow and mostly pedestrianised in season. There are pay-and-display car parks on the edge of town, a walkable distance from all three pubs.
What counts as a "pub with rooms" in Salcombe?
A bar you could walk into for a pint, with rooms attached — the Fortescue Inn, Victoria Inn and Ferry Inn are all genuine town pubs on or just off Fore Street, rather than the larger hotels around the estuary that lean more on spa and restaurant than bar.
Is Salcombe genuinely dog-friendly?
Two of our three, yes, with specifics — the Fortescue Inn welcomes dogs throughout the pub and beer garden, and the Victoria Inn has a dedicated dog menu and a charge per dog per night. The Ferry Inn's accommodation is reported dog-friendly but we haven't confirmed the bar and restaurant policy directly yet.
