Aylsham is a small market town in the valley of the River Bure, around ten miles inland from the North Norfolk coast. It has a Market Place with a town hall, and the Black Boys Inn on the corner — the town’s pub with rooms, a refurbished coaching inn with eight en-suite bedrooms (its own site also announced five more in a neighbouring Georgian building, which we haven’t counted).

The other two pubs are in the countryside just north of the town. The Bucks Arms at Blickling stands next to Blickling Hall with four rooms, three of them with four-poster beds, and dogs welcome in the bar and some of the bedrooms for £15 a stay. The Saracens Head at Wolterton is a six-room Georgian inn in the Norfolk countryside, ‘middle of nowhere, centre of everywhere’ by its own description, with a kitchen open Wednesday to Sunday and dogs welcome everywhere except the dining room.

On food, the Black Boys and Bucks Arms are traditional pubs with real ales and home-cooked menus, and the Saracens Head is the most food-led of the three, with a seasonal menu on Wednesday to Sunday. Dogs are welcome in the bars at all three, but they are barred from the restaurants at the Black Boys and the Saracens Head, so if you want to dine with a dog at those two it will be in the bar.

Questions people ask about Aylsham

Which pubs with rooms near Aylsham have parking?
The Black Boys has a free car park, and the Bucks Arms at Blickling has its own car park too, with the National Trust car park next door as an overflow. We haven't confirmed parking for the Saracens Head at Wolterton, so ring ahead.
What counts as a "pub with rooms" near Aylsham?
A bar you could walk into for a pint, with bedrooms attached. All three of ours qualify: the Black Boys is a coaching inn on the Market Place, the Bucks Arms is a pub next to Blickling Hall, and the Saracens Head is a Georgian inn in the countryside at Wolterton.
Can I stay with a dog near Aylsham?
Yes, with caveats. The Black Boys and Bucks Arms both welcome dogs in the bar and in some bedrooms; the Bucks Arms charges £15 a stay. The Black Boys does not allow dogs in its restaurant, and the Saracens Head says dogs are welcome everywhere except the dining room, without separately confirming the bedrooms.
