Pubs with Rooms Near Bolton Abbey

Pubs with rooms in Skipton, Elslack and Grassington, the nearest towns to the Bolton Abbey estate in the Yorkshire Dales, with dog policy checked.

Last reviewed October 2026.

Bolton Abbey is a Wharfedale estate with the priory ruins, the Strid and miles of riverside walks. The nearest pubs with rooms that we list are in Skipton, a short drive west, and in Grassington further up the dale.

Distances are straight-line map estimates from the estate, not driving distances, and we haven’t visited. There’s no pub with rooms closer to the estate in our listings yet, so this is a base-camp guide rather than a walk-from-the-door one.

Questions people ask

Are there pubs with rooms right at Bolton Abbey?

Not among those we list. The nearest are in Skipton, about 5.5 miles from the Bolton Abbey estate in a straight line, and the Tempest Arms at Elslack, about 9.5 miles. Grassington is about 7.6 miles up the dale. These are map estimates, so allow longer by road.

Which of these pubs let dogs stay in the bedrooms?

Dogs are welcome in the bedrooms at the Railway in Skipton and the Black Horse and Foresters Arms in Grassington, and in selected rooms at the Woolly Sheep Inn, the Tempest Arms and the Devonshire (£10 a night). Bolton Abbey is a popular walking estate for dogs, but its own rules on leads and seasonal areas apply, so check them before you go.

Can you get to Skipton by train?

Yes. Skipton has a railway station in the town centre, on the line from Leeds and Bradford. The two Skipton pubs are in the town centre, but Bolton Abbey is a few miles away. Dales bus services run up Wharfedale, and the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway runs a heritage line between Embsay and Bolton Abbey, though we haven't checked its timetable.
