Pubs with Rooms Near Castle Howard and Rievaulx Abbey

Pubs with rooms around Helmsley, Harome and Byland Abbey, with how far each is from Rievaulx and Castle Howard and what we know about dogs.

Last reviewed October 2026.

Rievaulx Abbey, a ruined Cistercian abbey in the Rye valley, is a short drive from Helmsley, and Castle Howard, the Brideshead Revisited house, is further east towards Malton. The pubs with rooms nearest to both are in and around Helmsley.

Distances are straight-line map estimates, not driving distances, and we haven’t visited. Helmsley has no railway station, so most visitors drive. The dog trade-offs vary a lot from pub to pub, so check each pub’s page before you book.
