Pubs with Rooms Near Trinity College and Temple Bar

Three traditional Dublin pubs with rooms, all within a short walk of Trinity College, Grafton Street and Temple Bar.

Last reviewed November 2026.

Trinity College, Grafton Street and Temple Bar sit within a few minutes of each other, and three pubs with rooms are within a short walk of them. Two are on Pearse Street, along the college’s eastern edge, and one is by St Stephen’s Green.

Distances are straight-line map estimates, not walking times, and we haven’t visited. These are working pubs with rooms above or beside the bar, so ask for a room away from it, particularly at weekends.

Pearse Street. About 0.1 miles from Trinity College, with eight en-suite rooms above a family-run pub that dates itself to 1885. No pets. Closed Sunday and Monday, with set check-in hours, so read the pub's notes before you travel.

Lombard Street East, on the corner of Pearse Street. About 0.2 miles from Trinity College, with eight rooms above a bar that serves food all day and opens at 9am. Reviewers say lower-floor rooms can hear the bar, and the stairs are the only way up.

A little further

Merrion Row. About 0.4 miles from Trinity College and near St Stephen's Green, in a pub that dates itself to 1789 and has live Irish music. Double, triple and quad rooms, booked direct.

Questions people ask

Which pubs with rooms are nearest to Trinity College?

O'Neills Victorian Pub & Townhouse on Pearse Street is about 0.1 miles from the college in a straight line and the Lombard Townhouse about 0.2. O'Donoghue's, on Merrion Row, is about 0.4 miles away. These are map estimates, not walking times.

How far are they from Temple Bar?

O'Neills is about 0.5 miles from Temple Bar, and the Lombard and O'Donoghue's about 0.7. All three are a walk rather than a bus ride.

Do these pubs allow dogs?

O'Neills says 'No pets or service animals allowed' on its own bedrooms page. The Lombard and O'Donoghue's don't state a dog policy on their sites, so we show it as unknown; ask before you book.

Which of these pubs have live music?

O'Donoghue's, which says it has live traditional Irish music in the bar and calls itself the first venue of The Dubliners. We found no music claims for the other two.

Do I need a car?

No. Dublin's centre is awkward for driving, and O'Neills advises against bringing a car in at all. It offers guests discounted parking at the Fleet Street Q-Park, and the Lombard has an arrangement with the Q-Park IFSC on Commons Street. Pearse station and the airport bus are close to both Pearse Street pubs.
