A bit of history
An 18th-century Georgian coaching inn on Kew Green, expanded in the Victorian era and extended again in 2000; a Young's house since 1831.

Stories & legends
- Local legend: Young's calls this its 'oldest pub with rooms' and says it has offered beds here from 1831, one of only three pubs in Kew in its early days. Its coaching-inn role is part of that story: the pub kept a stable where local businesses stabled horses, and the company still keeps an antique coach outside. Source: Young's blog, 'Say hello to our oldest pub with rooms' (youngs.co.uk); the claim is the brewer's own
- Disputed: How old the building is depends on who you ask. CAMRA and Young's describe a Georgian coaching inn, Time Out calls it a seventeenth-century inn, and the Pub History Society dates the pub itself from 1831 while noting a William Day listed at the address in the London Gazette of December 1797.
