A bit of history
CAMRA says the building dates from at least 1780 and was rebuilt around 1897 in the brick-and-terracotta style of the time; it is best known as the first home of the Orange Tree Theatre.

- On record: The Orange Tree Theatre began in the pub's upstairs room. Sam Walters and Auriol Smith opened it as the Richmond Fringe on 31 December 1971, playing to up to 80 people on six former church pews, before the company moved across the road to a converted Victorian school in 1991.
