A bit of history
Rebuilt in 1886 as the Brook Green, replacing an earlier Barley Mow pub that CAMRA says stood on the site; the pub was open by 1871 and Young's bought it around 1888. The pub's own website calls it a three-storey former coaching inn, which we have not seen in other sources.

Stories & legends
- Disputed: The pub's own website calls the building a former coaching inn. CAMRA and Pubology describe something different: a Barley Mow pub on or near the site, open by 1871, replaced by the present Victorian building in 1886 and renamed the Brook Green. We have not found a source that confirms coaching-inn use. Source: Brook Green Hotel website vs CAMRA WhatPub and Pubology
- Local legend: The Brook Green is said to sit over the now-culverted brook that gave the green its name, which runs beneath the pub. CAMRA reports it as hearsay ('is said to run'), and we found no survey or map evidence in the sources we checked. Source: CAMRA WhatPub listing
- On record: CAMRA rates the pub's interior as of special national historic interest (one star in its Historic Pub Interiors scheme), pointing to the mirrored bar-back with carved Renaissance-style faces, a Classical fireplace and stained-glass panels of kings, one of them David with his harp. The pub is not formally listed. Source: CAMRA WhatPub listing, Historic Pub Interiors rating
