A bit of history
A Grade II listed pub built around 1897 in the Old English style by pub specialists Eedle and Meyers, on the site of the old Crown inn; it takes the second half of its name from the Greyhound inn that stood across the road, and CAMRA rates its interior as regionally important.

Stories & legends
- On record: The Greyhound, the inn across the road that gave the pub its name, was home to the Dulwich Club, a society of 'literary men' founded in 1772 for 'friendly converse and social cheer'. A dinner menu from 1782 survives, listing turtle soup and a hunting pudding. Source: Wikipedia, 'The Crown and Greyhound'; Southwark Heritage collection, 'The Greyhound, Dulwich Village'
- Local legend: Charles Dickens, Thackeray and Mark Lemon are said to have been entertained by the Dulwich Club at the old Greyhound, and the Southwark heritage record adds that the Greyhound was 'said to have been' a meeting place of Dickens and Robert Browning. The visits are undated, and neither inn is the present building. Source: Wikipedia, 'The Crown and Greyhound'; Southwark Heritage collection, 'The Greyhound, Dulwich Village'
- On record: Folk fans may know the pub as the home of the 'Goose Is Out' folk club, which ran upstairs from 2013 until the pub closed for refurbishment in 2014. It reopened in June 2017. Source: Wikipedia, 'The Crown and Greyhound'
