A bit of history
The pub says it dates back to 1878; Pub History Society records, drawn from newspaper notices and censuses, show a Victoria Tavern on this corner built by William Peter Widdrington, with a spirits licence refused in 1871 and granted in 1875.

Stories & legends
- On record: Film fans may recognise the outside: the pub, then called the Wishing Well, stood in for the Coach & Horses in the 2001 film 'Last Orders', set around a group of friends scattering a butcher's ashes. The interior scenes were shot in a different pub, the Larkhall Tavern in Clapham. - On record: Pub History Society records name William Peter Widdrington as the Victoria Tavern's builder and first licensee. A Morning Advertiser notice of March 1871 shows his licence application refused, and the South London Press of March 1875 reports it granted, which suggests the pub is a little older than the 1878 it claims.
