- Local legend: The pub shares its name with a local family: John Julius Angerstein, the Lloyd's underwriter whose art collection became the core of the National Gallery, built Woodlands on a Westcombe Park estate in the 1770s, and the family's later Angerstein Wharf and railway (opened 1852) are still just down the road. We found no source saying the pub was named for them or owned by them, so treat the link as likely but unproven.
