A bit of history
A painted stone tablet reads 'Ceylon Place, New East Greenwich 1801', which makes The Pilot probably the oldest surviving building on the Greenwich Peninsula; the row of eight cottages beside it is Grade II listed.

Stories & legends
- On record: The pub's own history page says the cottages beside it were the backdrop to Blur's 'Park Life' music video, and that the pub appears in it too. Londonist places the 1994 filming on the one short street where the Pilot and its neighbours stand. - Disputed: It is often said the pub is named after William Pitt the Younger, nicknamed 'the Pilot who weathered the storm', who is said to have once owned the land. The more obvious reading is the Thames pilot, whose orange boat appeared on the old sign, and no source we found shows which is right.
