• Disputed: CAMRA says the pub dates from the 17th century as the Rose & Crown and took the name Hand & Flower in 1787, but Pubology reads the name change as coming with a rebuilding around 1788. Both sources agree on the late 1780s; neither gives a primary record for the 17th-century origin, so treat that as the pub's tradition rather than a proven date.
