A bit of history

A Grade II listed Georgian house of 1805-6, on the Parsons Green site where the novelist Samuel Richardson lived from 1756 until 1761.

Stories & legends

• On record: Samuel Richardson, author of Pamela and Clarissa, lived in a villa at Parsons Green from 1756 until his death in 1761, and Aragon House and its neighbour Gosford Lodge were later built on that site. • Local legend: The name is said to come from a dower house belonging to Catherine of Aragon on the site, and one account says Henry VII gave the property to her. We could only trace this to the pub's own website and local tradition, not to any historical record, and the building you see dates from 1805-6, long after her time.
