A bit of history
A Grade II listed Victorian pub, rebuilt in 1898 in Flemish Renaissance style opposite the site of Young's Ram Brewery. Pubology records a pub here by 1745.

Stories & legends
- On record: The Spread Eagle stands across the road from the old Young's Ram Brewery, where brewing stopped in September 2006. The pub was tied to the brewery, and the current building was put up in 1898 in the pub-building boom, with red brick, a Dutch gable on the west pavilion and an iron-and-glass entrance canopy. - On record: CAMRA rates the saloon's etched and mirrored glass as a historic interior of national importance, though a 2020 refurbishment lost some coloured stained glass and replaced part of the bar-back shelving with fridges. Source: CAMRA Pub Heritage and WhatPub listings; Pubology listing
